Learn to Swim Lessons for Kids

Children, roughly 3 to 12 years, from first lessons to confident swimming.

Learn to swim programs take children from their first independent splashes to confident, safe swimming. Lessons are grouped into levels so your child progresses step by step: water confidence and safety first, then floating and kicking, then freestyle, backstroke and the other strokes.

FAQ: Learn to Swim Lessons for Kids

How long does it take a child to learn to swim?
It varies a lot by age, how often they attend and how comfortable they are in the water. With weekly lessons, many children swim a short distance independently within one to two years, but water safety and confidence come first and the timeline is different for every child.
How are learn to swim levels structured?
Most programs use a sequence of levels that start with water confidence and safety, then floating and kicking, then freestyle and backstroke, and later breaststroke and butterfly. Children move up when they have shown the skills for their current level, not after a set number of weeks.
Are group or private lessons better for learning to swim?
Both work. Group lessons are more affordable and let children learn alongside others, while private lessons give one-to-one attention and can suit a nervous child or one who needs to progress faster. Many families start in a group and add private lessons if needed.
